Paul Newman called his friend and peer Elizabeth Taylor "a helluva actress", during a touching tribute to the Hollywood star, who passed away yesterday (23rd March 2011).Paul Newman, the American actor who died in 2008 at the age of 83, narrated a tribute documentary about the late actress Elizabeth Taylor, in which he called the screen siren "a helluva actress", reports People Magazine.Newman starred alongside the actress in the 1958 adaptation of Tennesse Williams' classic play 'Cat on a Hot Tin Roof', with the actor portraying the drunkard 'Brick' and Taylor playing his neglected wife Maggie. Their on-screen chemistry was rewarded with Oscar nominations in both the 'Best Actor' and 'Best Actress' categories. Newman paid tribute to Taylor in the documentary that aired on Turner Classic Movies, saying, "She practically grew up in front of the camera, her life has not been an easy or a private one, but a series of tribulations, serious illnesses, senseless tragedy and lost love", he added, "One things for sure, she is not afraid to take chances in front of people. I find a lot of actors who reach the top, they become very protective of themselves, and self-indulgent, but not Elizabeth".
Paul Newman's words were echoed by a number of stars of the stage and screen, following Taylor's passing yesterday (23rd March 2011). Barbra Streisand and Elton John were among those sharing their memories of the 79-year-old actress.

IT IS A TRAGEDY THAT HAPPENED YESTERDAY WHEN SHE PASSED. SHE WAS A FANTASTIC ACTRESS, & LOVED BY MANY. MAY SHE REST IN PEACE NOW, SHE IS NO LONGER IN PAIN, OR SUFFERING. SHE WILL BE MISSED BY MANY. I LOVED ALOT OF HER MOVIES SHE PLAYED IN.IT TOUCHED MY HEART THAT SHE WOULD REACH OUT & HELP OTHER'S & THE WAY SHE WAS CLOSE TO MICHAEL JACKSON. THEY WERE SIDE BY SIDE, IN ALOT OF WAYS, & THEY HELPED EACH OTHER. THEIR ARE SO MANY PEOPLE THAT WE PART FROM BUT WILL REMEMBER IN OUR HEARTS & SOULS.. LOVED BOTH OF THEM DEARLY.
