Petra Nemcova - Petra Nemcova: The Impossible made me shake
Petra Nemcova, who was caught up in the 2004 Indian Ocean earthquake and tsunami, has revealed that 'The Impossible', a movie about the tragic natural disaster, left her ''shaking''.
Petra Nemcova was left ''shaking'' while watching 'The Impossible'.
The Czech supermodel suffered horrific injuries during the 2004 Indian Ocean earthquake and tsunami - which occurred on December 26 in Thailand - and her photographer fiancé Simon Atlee was killed.
Petra has revealed it was incredibly difficult to relive the tragedy when it was retold on the big screen in the Oscar-nominated movie starring Naomi Watts.
Speaking exclusively to BANG Showbiz at the F&F autumn/winter 2013 fashion show on Thursday (16.05.13), she said: ''It was hard to see because the film is [set] in the same hotel where I was and the same beach where I was, and the first half of the film was 90 per cent of my own experience, so it was very hard. I was definitely shaking.''
However, the 33-year-old beauty went on to praise the film - which is based on the real life story of a Spanish woman, Maria Belon, whose family was separated by the tsunami - for accurately portraying the natural disaster and handling the sensitive subject matter with care.
She said: ''The directors and producers have done a really good job. It is very honest and very real. Sometimes stories like that can be overemphasised or underplayed, and they did an excellent job.
''It was a Spanish production and they were so sweet. They were helping my foundation, the Happy Hearts Fund, and on the DVDs they put a public service announcement which Naomi Watts did to promote the foundation, so it is very thoughtful of them.''
With the 10th anniversary of the tsunami looming, Petra is planning to commemorate the life-altering event by opening 100 schools through her charity and spending time with her late fiancé's family - and the model is even open to returning to Thailand to mark the occasion.
She said: ''I am sure we will be with Simon's family. We are still very good friends and well connected, his family and my family, so we will do something special.
''I have been back many times, even just recently at Christmas, so I will see what the family wants to do. We have schools in Thailand and the same area [it happened], so we will see.''
