Pia Toscano - Pia Toscano Had No Chance

Pia Toscano had 'no chance' of winning American Idol, according to a production insider on the show, reports the UK's Daily Mail. Pia Toscano, the 22-year-old New Yorker who was controversially eliminated from the singing contest last week, apparently received far less votes than audiences assumed.
'Idol' judges had raged at the decision to eliminate Toscano and the singer herself was visibly shocked when host Ryan Seacrest read out her name. However, the 22-year-old was apparently "nowhere near" the top of the overall voting pile and at least four rival contestants had consistently ranked above her. While judge Jennifer Lopez was left in tears at Toscano's exit from the competition, the show's executive producer Nigel Lythgoe had suggested that Pia was never a frontrunner because she "didn't connect" with the audience. Nevertheless, the exit stunned the judges and the live studio audience, with Steven Tyler remarking, "I don't know what happened with this". Randy Jackson echoed the comments and spoke of his disbelief at how the voting had turned out.
Despite the shock elimination, Pia Toscano has reportedly been in talks with several major record labels concerning a possible recording contract. The singer is expected to sign with Jimmy Lovine's Interscope Records and begin work immediately on her debut album.

Agreed I did not connect with Pia. Her deliveries were too studied and contrived. Also relatively old fashioned. And NO humility was ever in evidence. She came across as vain and smug and overconfident. She always behaved as though the contest was over that she would be the winner. And I noticed that the night Casey was saved, her expression betrayed something none of the other contestants shared. Whereas they were delighted that he was saved, She instantly realized that there would be no more saves, and it put EVEN HER slightly in jeopardy. I guess the bottom line was she just wasn't loveable.

The producers must thing that everyone is stupid. I read the thing a few days ago where Nigel Lythgoe was reported as saying he knew the voting totals and she was not expected to win. Here's the problem with that - the complaint many people had was that the voting system is flawed. You can't use voting data to argue that the voting system is not flawed. Every on-line poll that I read had Pia in the top three, and many weeks they showed her ranked in 1st place. THAT'S the problem! So let me emphasize this point so it is not lost:YOU CAN NOT USE VOTING DATA TO ARGUE THAT THE VOTING SYSTEM IS NOT FLAWED.The votes should reflect reality to some degree, and on American Idol they NEVER do. That's the problem.

Pia has a wonderful voice. I am very unhappy at the low turn-out for her regardless of connecting or not. After all this is a singing contest and there was no-one even that came close to her in talent. I am happy however that we will benefit by a news recording contract that is so well deserved.

Every time they comment, they lose more credibility. This is the first week she had ever been in the bottom three, and if she had stayed, would have awakened her fans who probably didn't vote, or certainly as often, because they assumed it was a given that she was safe. The other thing is this...anytime you have a voting system where you can vote as many times as you want, and now can vote online, its a VERY flawed system. And..if she had no chance of winning, or even making it to the finals with her voice, as the producers say, then that only proves again that it has nothing to do with talent....just the person that has the most fans with nothing to do but call over and over for two hours every Wednesday night. A VERY flawed system!

To me, Pia is the ONLY one good enough to win!!!! She was leaps and bounds ahead of any of the remaining 8 contestants!! The voting system is definitely flawed, and should be FIXED! I won't watch this ridiculous show again until the voting is CHANGED! I am DONE with AM IDOL!!! And can't wait for Pia's album!!! You go Jimmy, you just got an early Christmas present, and so did I...Wed. and Thurs nights are free now!

The reason why the system is "flawed" is because of websites like vote for the worst and services that provide high volume automatic dialing. An automatic dialer can dial the same number 100 times in the amount of time an average person with a cell phone can place 2 calls for his/her favorite contestant. Now, it's not that Paul McDonald is completely talentless, but he certainly has no business still being on the show while contestants like Casey Abrams and now Pia Toscano have been eliminated (Abrams was later saved by the judges). Simon Cowell and the shows producers have been well aware of the impact of these joke votes for several seasons now. After the Sanjaya farce, I was positive that Cowell would soon leave the show. They tried to prevent the show becoming a joke by introducing the judges save, but that, as we see is very limited, being that they can only use it once, and the very next week, 2 contestants are eliminated. I think they need to go further and have the judges vote one contestant safe every week and one contestant automatically into the bottom 3, at least until there are 8 or less contestants. Then, leave it solely in the hands of amateur voters.

The Judges were the blame for the elimination of Pia. They wasted the only save on Casey. He was an unusual talent, but he was not going to make it to the final five. Randy is the most expirienced Judge, he knew it was foolish to use that save so early, and on someone who lack the talent to win. What would Simon do...he would never allow Randy to save a fellow bass player. So before the Judges blame America, or the groupies who vote for non talented people like Paul, they need to look at the man or woman in the mirror.
