Actress Freida Pinto was eager for fans to see her politically-charged film Miral because she was convinced it would show people the "real story" and help bring about social change.
The Slumdog Millionaire star was at first wary of taking on the project because she knew little about the subject - the Israeli-Palestinian conflict - however, Pinto admits once she started researching her role, she knew the film could do a lot to squash stereotypes and spark conversation.
Speaking to Interview magazine, she says, "There was a lot I had to learn, because all the news channels say is 'Israeli soldiers' and 'Palestinian terrorists' - we've already compartmentalised them. But when you go there, and you see the real story, there's where your journey really begins...
"The best way to describe it is that there are people who are trying to make a difference in a very civil manner, not just by picking up a gun. I felt that if I became part of this film and I gave it my all, that's exactly what I would be doing.
"I can't join the army, I'm not a politician, but through my film I could talk about it. I knew the film was not going to be accepted too well, but I did it hoping that somewhere in the future it would be referred to as one of those films that started the conversation."
