Scarlett Johansson - Police Arrest Suspected Scarlett Johansson Hacker
Police have arrested a 35-year-old Florida resident they believe is responsible for stealing naked pictures of Scarlett Johansson from her phone.
Police have arrested the man who allegedly stole naked pictures of Scarlett Johansson from her phone.
The images - which include one of the actress holding a towel with her rear reflected in a mirror and another of her topless lying on a bed - were leaked onto the internet last month and investigators are confident Christopher Chaney, 35, from Florida, who they apprehended this morning (12.10.11) was solely responsible.
US Attorney Andre Birotte Jr. said: "Motive is always a question in a criminal case. We have no information to suggest that he profited. He's been charged as a single defendant. The information that we have is that he was culpable for wire-tapping and hacking these accounts."
If convicted Chaney faces up to 121 years in prison.
Although police initially thought the hacking was being carried out by a group, according to E! Online, they now believe the accused simply managed to figure out the celebrities' passwords and security question answers from publicly available information.
Once he gained access to their accounts he set up an automatic forwarding system which allowed all of their sent and received emails to be sent to his account.
Scarlett's lawyer, Marty Singer, has threatened legal action against any websites who have posted the pictures and has issued a letter to a number of internet publishers stating the images are "stolen copyright protected private photographs".
'Friends with Benefits' co-stars Mila Kunis and Justin Timberlake are also thought to have been the victims of the same hackers after a shirtless snap of the 'Social Network' actor appeared on the internet.
However, the FBI have refused to name any of the alleged victims "due to the pending nature" of the investigation.
