Prosecutors Demand At Least 19 Years For Spector
Prosecutors are demanding shamed music producer Phil Spector receives a jail term of at least 19 years after he was found guilty of murdering actress Lana Clarkson last month (Apr09).
Los Angeles lawyers filed court documents on Tuesday (19May09) asking for Spector to be handed a sentence of 19 years to life.
After a five-month retrial, Spector was found guilty of murdering Clarkson at his home in Alhambra, California in 2003. The mogul and his legal team maintained throughout the trial that the actress shot herself.
In his sentencing recommendation, attorney Alan Jackson writes: "Lana Clarkson was the last in a series of victims to suffer homicidal assaults at the hands of Phil Spector. This court heard from six women - each of whom recounted the chilling details of their encounters with Spector in which Spector pulled guns on them and promised that he could and would kill them."
The prosecution has also asked that the 69 year old is forced to hand over $16,800 (£11,200) to Clarkson's family - on top of the $9,740 (£6,490) fee needed to cover her funeral and burial.
Spector will be sentenced on 29 May (09).
