Rapper Q-Tip is planning to reunite his legendary band A Tribe Called Quest on record for his next solo album.

The hip-hop icons, who staged a live comeback in 2006 - eight years after their split, played their latest gig together on Saturday (16Mar13) at the South by Southwest festival in Austin, Texas, where they opened for soul superstar Prince, and Q-Tip reveals he wants to step back into the recording booth with his old pals.

The star claims the project, titled The Last Zulu, is a concept album which will feature traditional South African beats - and he wants his bandmates to join him in the studio.

He tells Billboard.com, "Hopefully Phife Dog and Ali Shaheed Muhammed will make an appearance on it, and Jarobi (White)."

And White is already a fan of the material so far: "I heard some of the tracks, and they are fine!"

A Tribe Called Quest has not recorded new music together since 1998's The Love Movement.
