Ricky Gervais - Ricky Gervais: Hollywood Finally Got It This Time

Ricky Gervais says the Hollywood A-listers finally "worked out" his brand of humor after his third attempt at hosting the Golden Globes. Though his first stint went down relatively well in 2010, last year's show was heavily criticized after Gervais took aim at some of Hollywood's biggest stars.
The British comedian was the surprise choice to return for the 2012 show, though the Hollywood Foreign Press were no doubt impressed with the strong viewing figures the year before. On Sunday (15 January 2012), Gervais helmed an all-together tamer show, with harmless putdowns aimed at the likes of Kim Kardashian and Madonna - a far cry from the barbed insults hurled at Robert Downey Jr and Mel Gibson in 2011. Speaking on his official blog this week, the star of The Office ruled out hosting the Globes for a fourth term, saying, "I've told my agent to never let me be persuaded to do it again though. It's like a parachute jump. You can only really enjoy it in retrospect when you realise you didn't die and it was quite an amazing thing to do". Ricky appeared to go down well with the star-studded audience this time around, with George Clooney and Johnny Depp particularly complimentary. The comedian himself said the crowd were "great", adding, "I think they finally worked out that my gags only seemed rude and nasty but were actually not too scary at all. Or they were just drunker".
Gervais rose to fame appearing as the hapless boss David Brent in the Bbc comedy The Office, before going on to write and star in Extras and feature film Cemetery Junction. Later this year, he will voice The Toad in the animated adaptation of 'The Wind in the Willows'.
