R+B star Rihanna is grateful her smash hit single UMBRELLA has achieved global success - because she almost lost out on the chance to sing it.
The 19-year-old - who is dominating the U.S and European charts with the Jay-Z collaboration - admits the track was nearly given to another artist.
But the feisty singer argued with the song's producers at an unnamed awards ceremony to ensure the song was hers.
She says, "I said: 'Listen, Umbrella is my song!' He must've thought I was really pushy and laughed it off.
"But I turned his face back to my own: 'No, I'm serious - I need Umbrella'. Two days later we found out the song was mine."
