Ringo Starr has given the go-ahead for an illustrated children's book based on his Beatles song Octopus's Garden.

The track, which features on 1969 Fab Four album Abbey Road, tells of a hidden world beneath the waves and has long been a kids' favourite due to its nursery rhyme qualities.

Now the drummer has given his publishing company Simon & Schuster and illustrator Ben Cort permission to produce a children's book based on the song.

Starr says, "It gives me great pleasure to collaborate with Ben Cort and Simon & Schuster for the further adventures of Octopus's Garden."

The book, which tells the story of five youngsters on an underwater adventure, will come with a Cd featuring an unheard Starr song and is due for release in the U.K. October (13).
