Robert Pattinson reckons he'll be too old to return to the Twilight role that made him a superstar. Speaking to Reuters at the Berlinale Film Festival - where he is promoting his current film Bel Ami, Pattinson told reporters that although he'd be interested to see what the Twilight author Stephanie Meyer would write, he doesn't reckon he'd be convincing as the youthful vampire Edward Cullen any longer.
"I'd be curious what Stephanie would write, but I just think I'd probably be too old," said Pattinson, before adding "I'm already too old. But yeah, it'd be kind of interesting." The final installment of the five-film Twilight franchise is due to hit cinema screens in November 2012. The previous four films have grossed around $2.5 billion at box offices around the world and have transformed Robert Pattinson's career in the process. He told reporters that he's keen not continue making Twilight-style films though, saying "The biggest disservice you can do to your audience is trying to repeat the same thing and get them to come just to get money or whatever. But if people are interested in what you are doing, then if you try and do interesting films on interesting subjects then I think it's great."
Bel Ami is costume drama, set in 19th century Paris and starring Uma Thurman, Christina Ricci and Kristin Scott Thomas. Pattinson seems to have relished the opportunity to play the adulterous Georges Duroy, telling Reuters "The character of Georges rarely comes up in any movies any more, because he's unrepentant," he said. "It was quite fun playing that and I don't think I'll ever have the opportunity to play him again." The film opens March 2, 2012 in the US and March 9 in UK.
