Robert Plant has been announced as the Friday headliner for this year's BBC Electric Proms, and he will joined at the BBC event by Neil Diamond, who has been confirmed for the Sunday night. This year's proms takes place between Thursday 28th and Saturday 30th October 2010, and other artists set to perform include Elton John.
Plant has enjoyed a huge amount of solo success since the 1980's, and he won five Grammy Awards in 2009 for his album 'Raising Sand', which was a collaborative effort with the singer Alison Krauss. Despite being best known as the vocalist and lyricist of rock band Led Zeppelin, the 62-year-old will be showcasing his acclaimed new album 'Band of Joy', when he takes to the Electric Proms stage in October.
Mark Cooper, Executive Producer of the event, told the BBC, "Robert Plant is on fire at the moment with five-star reviews following the release of his new album. Wherever he goes with a brilliant live band lead by guitarist/producer Buddy Miller he is causing a stir wherever he plays". The singer is set to be joined onstage by PATTY GRIFFIN, and the London Oriana Choir.
