Rock photographer Ken Regan, best known for snapping images of Bob Dylan and Jimi Hendrix at the height of their fame, has died.

Regan lost his battle with cancer on Sunday (25Nov12), reports Rolling Stone magazine.

The New York native took iconic images of The Rolling Stones, and went on the road with The Beatles, Hendrix and Bruce Springsteen to photograph their tours.

He also captured classic moments offstage, including Sir Mick Jagger hanging out with famed pop artist Andy Warhol in his Factory studio, and Bob Dylan meeting Springsteen for the first time in 1975.

Regan also covered sports and film, shooting Muhammad Ali, George Foreman and Clint Eastwood, and continued to work until earlier this year (11) when he was sidelined by cancer.

Keith Richards wrote about being photographed by the snapper in the preface to the 2011 book All Access: the Rock & Roll Photography of Ken Regan.

He explained, "Many times I've been onstage only to see Ken's beady left eye drilling through me with that wry grin under his camera and know he's got the shot he was after. I know a lot of photographers and they all have a personal style. When I see Ken in front of me, I know what he's waiting for... the moment!"
