Russell Brand made a triumph return to the stage at Give It Up For Comic Relief.

The joker both hosted and organised the star-studded event at London's Wembley Arena on Wednesday night (07.03.13), bringing together some of Britain's best talent to raise awareness and money for people affected by drug addiction in the UK.

The outspoken comedian drew some of the night's biggest laughs from the crowd, with the MailOnline claiming he was the ''toast of the evening with his mixture of comedy and touching tributes to his friend Amy Winehouse''.

A source said of Russell's hosting skills: ''Russell managed to achieve the best mixture of comedy and seriousness by alternating his jokes with serious messages about the danger of addiction.

''He looked in his element hosting such a huge gig, and the crowd loved him''.

Meanwhile, The Telegraph described the evening as a ''lusty round of fund-raising activity''.

The star - who shared the stage with comedians including Eddie Izzard and Noel Fielding as well as musical performers like Jessie J and Kasabian - was certainly a bigger hit than fellow comedian Frankie Boyle, whose shocking jokes about wishing Queen Elizabeth would die left the crowd reeling.

Russell later headed to Embassy club in Mayfair with 'The Mighty Boosh' star Noel to round off the successful evening.
