Russia's Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev has urged the country's lawmakers to release jailed rockers Pussy Riot, insisting the two women still incarcerated have spent enough time behind bars.

Three members of the all-girl group were sentenced to serve two years in prison on hooliganism charges after they staged a protest gig in a Moscow church in March (12).

One of the rockers, Yekaterina Samutsevich, was released on appeal last month (Oct12), but her bandmates, Nadezhda Tolokonnikova and Maria Alekhina, have been sent to prison camps to serve out their sentences.

Prime Minister Medvedev, who previously suggested the sentences were too harsh, has repeated his call for the rockers to be released, while maintaining he does not condone what they did.

Meanwhile, Tolokonnikova's husband, Pyotr Verzilov, was turned away by authorities when he tried to visit his wife at a prison camp in the village of Partsa in Mordovia on Friday (02Nov12).

Tolokonnikova and Alekhina, who both have small children, are appealing their sentences.
