Ryan Gosling has been cast in 'Drive'.

The 29-year-old actor replaced Australian star Hugh Jackman in the movie, which tells the story of a stuntman.

Discussing the film, writer and director Nicolas Winding Refn told empireonline.com: "Hopefully next is a movie with Ryan Gosling at a studio in America.

"It's called 'Drive' and it's about a stuntman by day, a getaway driver by night."

The movie, based on The James Sallis' novel of the same name, has stalled in recent years, with 'The Descent' director Neil Marshall originally lined up to helm the project.

The movie would be quite a departure for Canadian-born Ryan, who is best known for his 2004 romantic movie 'The Notebook'.

He recently revealed his upcoming film 'Blue Valentine' - in which he stars alongside 'Brokeback Mountain' star Michelle Williams - should be considered an "erotic thriller".

He said: "I've heard the film described as a portrait of love falling apart, but I think they should call it an 'erotic thriller'. That sounds way more fun. Sex is a really important character in the film."
