Ryan Seacrest - Ryan Seacrest Signs $30 Million 'Pact' With American Idol
Ryan Seacrest is a man of his word. No longer than a couple of weeks after he hinted he would remain with American Idol during an appearance on the 'Today Show', the most sought after presenter in the business has signed a new two year contract with the reality show.
Seacrest has hosted Idol since its launch in 2002, and it's partially down to him that the show has kept pulling in the viewers, whilst numerous rivals have fallen. Recent speculation had suggested Simon Cowell was looking to poach Seacrest for The X Factor USA, following the departure of Steve Jones, but the music mogul will now be on the hunt for alternatives. According to the Hollywood Reporter, Seacrest has inked a two-year "pact", which will pay him $15 million annually. One Idol insider revealed that network executives "cannot envision the show without Ryan", adding, "The goal has always been to keep him". It's true that losing the presenter could have spelled disaster for the show, which has seen its ratings down more than 20 per cent in total viewers compared with last year. The advent of rival shows such as The Voice has meant not everyone is tuning in to Idol for their reality fix, and with news that Simon Cowell has landed Britney Spears for The X Factor, things could get even tighter next season.
However, Seacrest is one of the most in-demand personalities in the United States and he was reportedly being courted as a potential successor to Matt Lauer on the Today Show, before the veteran penned a new deal.
