Sakai's Husband Testifies In Drugs Case
The husband of Japanese pop singer NORIKO SAKAI has told a judge he was forced to carry drugs amid fears the star would take them without his supervision.
Sakai handed herself in to Tokyo cops in August (09) after going on the run from police following the arrest of her husband Yuichi Takaso, 41, for possessing drugs.
At a hearing at Tokyo's District Court on Tuesday (20Oct09), Takaso admitted he was carrying the drugs to prevent his wife from taking them while he was not at home.
He explained, "If I left it at home, I thought that my wife Noriko might use it alone without me watching. I was thinking that we could meet up later and do it together."
Sakai, a former teen pop star-turned-TV actress, has apologised to fans, and is expected to make her first court appearance next week (begs24Oct09).
