Sam Claflin is set to star in 'The Hunger Games: Catching Fire'.

The 'Snow White and the Huntsman' star is to take on the coveted role of Finnick Odair - a male victor in the 65th Hunger Games in the Suzanne Collins book trilogy on which the movies are based - in the sequel to this year's 'Hunger Games'.

While Sam is yet to be officially unveiled in the role, sources have told Zap2it that Lionsgate and producer Nina Jacobson have signed off on his offer.

Sam has beaten off competition from the likes of Taylor Kitsch, Garrett Hedlund and Armie Hammer, who were all thought to be battling it out for the role, and Robert Pattinson was also previously linked to the part after the 'Twilight' actor admitted he was ''curious'' about starring in the film.

Meanwhile, 'Pulp Fiction' star Amanda Plummer has also been cast in the motion picture as female tribute Wiress, Lionsgate has confirmed.

The studio explained: ''The character's eccentricity earns her the nickname 'Nuts' from fellow tributes, and though she doesn't communicate traditionally, her observations and contributions prove invaluable in the Quarter Quell.''

Philip Seymour Hoffman recently landed the role of Head Gamemaker Plutarch Heavensbee in 'Catching Fire', which will see Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson and Liam Hemsworth all reprise their respective roles of Katniss Everdeen, Peeta Mellark and Gale Hawthorne.

'The Hunger Games: Catching Fire' is scheduled for release on November 22, 2013.
