Sara Bareilles thinks she should be a "sacrificial Lamb" with her feelings.

The 'King Of Anything' singer believes being open with her emotions is an key part of her job, and she always pushes herself to confess her most vulnerable moments on tracks.

She told BANG Showbiz: "I think we have to be the sacrificial lambs, in essence, to kind of share our stories, with the hope that someone out there needs to hear it.

"The more vulnerable you allow yourself to be as an artist and as a speaker I feel that is your duty as an artist.

"Every time I feel myself pulling back, I try to nip that and push harder, because every time I've been especially vulnerable in a song, those are the songs that I've had the most connectivity with my audience over."

Sara - who has just released her third album 'Kaleidoscope Heart' - also told how she finds her inspiration can manifest itself in a number of different ways.

She exclusively told BANG Showbiz: "Writing usually comes from an emotional place, and lots of times it comes from an experience.

"Sometimes I'll just be walking along and come up with a tune or a melody. Other times I'll sit in front of the piano with a complete blank canvas in my mind and literally just lay my hands on the keys. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't."

'Kaleidoscope Heart' is out now.
