Actress Scarlett Johansson has filed a lawsuit against a French publisher over the rights to her name.
The Avengers star has accused bosses at JC Lattes of using her name without her permission in author Gregoire Delacourt's novel The First Thing We Look At, about a mechanic who falls in love with Johansson's doppelganger, Jeanine Foucaprez.
The book was released in March (13), and now the actress has filed legal papers seeking damages for the breach and fraudulent use of her personal rights, as well as a ban on future adaptations of the novel, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Meanwhile, Delacourt has defended his work, insisting he simply used the blonde beauty's name to describe the character's appearance and help paint a picture for readers, just as he compared the male lead to Ryan Gosling.
Speaking to local newspaper Le Figaro, Delacourt admits he was "stunned" by the legal action, and adds, "I wrote a book of fiction. My character is not Scarlett Johansson, it is Jeanine Foucaprez!"
