Actress-turned-singer Scarlett Johansson has formed her own girl band.

The Lost In Translation beauty previously released an album of Tom Waits covers and a collaborative project with singer/songwriter Pete Yorn, and she scored her biggest musical accolade to date this year (13) when she received an Oscar nomination for Best Original Song for Before My Time, from the soundtrack to climate change documentary Chasing Ice.

She lost out on the statuette to Adele and her Bond theme Skyfall, but Johansson admits she was stunned to even be recognised in the category.

She says, "It's funny because I never thought I would be nominated for an Oscar next to Adele. That was very surprising to me. (It's) such a beautiful documentary called Chasing Ice. My friend Jay Ralph did all the music for it. He just called me up and we did a song for it. It was a beautiful song that he wrote, but I never could have imagined it'd be nominated for an Oscar."

Now Johansson reveals she has joined forces with some friends to launch her own group.

She says, "I'm in the process of working on an all-girls band... we're called the One and Only Singles, we're kind of doing our Go-Gos thing."
