Schaeffer Murderer Stabbed In Prison
The man convicted of stalking and killing model-turned-actress Rebecca Schaeffer is recovering after he was attacked and stabbed in prison.
Robert John Bardo, 37, was sentenced to life imprisonment after he was found guilty of murdering My Sister Sam star Schaeffer in 1989 - and was left fighting for life after he was stabbed repeatedly by another inmate at Mule Creek State Prison in Amador County, California last week (ends29Jul07). Bardo was housed in a maximum-security unit at the jail.
Officials confirm Bardo suffered 11 stab and puncture wounds on Friday (27Jul07) and treated at University of California, Davis, Medical Center. He has now returned to the prison.
State Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation officials state the murderer was stabbed in the prison yard while inmates were on their way to breakfast.
Two homemade weapons were found at the scene. The suspect in the attack was identified as a man serving an 82-years-to-life sentence for second-degree murder.
Bardo's slaying of Schaeffer prompted strict anti-stalking laws in California.
