Scorsese's Stones Movie To Open Berlin Film Festival
Martin Scorsese's much-anticipated Rolling Stones documentary has been selected to open the Berlin Film Festival in Germany. The revered moviemaker and the band themselves are expected to make an appearance when Shine A Light has its world premiere at the European festival next month (Feb08). The film features footage from two Stones concerts in New York's Beacon Theatre in 2006, as well as rare archival clips and interviews. One of the two shows Scorsese filmed was a party hosted by former U.S. President Bill Clinton. Footage features Stones performances with White Stripes star Jack White and Christina Aguilera. Berlin Festival director Dieter Kosslick is thrilled to land the documentary: "We are extremely excited to have the world premiere of this magnificent film as our opening gala. "Martin Scorsese has captured the pure essence of an iconic band on the big screen." The Berlin Film Festival opens on 7 February (08). Shine A Light will be released to cinemas around the world in April (08).
