The Seinfeld actor Daniel von Bargen has shot himself in the head and remarkably survived the ordeal. Von Bargen is reportedly in a critical condition in an Ohio hospital after the apparent suicide attempt and TMZ have released a recording of the chilling 911 call that he made after the incident.
The 911 operator keeps the 61 year old talking until paramedics arrive and the actor tells him that he had shot himself in the temple because he did not want to go to hospital to have his toes amputated. Von Bargen is diabetic and explains that he has already had a leg amputated as a result of his medical problems. "I was supposed to go to the hospital today but I didn't want to," he tells the operator "so I shot myself, but it didn't work." He goes on to say that he is lying down and seems unable to move, saying that he cannot open his eyes. He was alone at the time of the incident, in which he shot himself with a .38 colt. He says that the gun is still with him on the bed. "I shot myself in the temple and. I don't know. I can't open my eyes."
Explaining in further detail about his planned trip to hospital, Daniel tells the emergency services that "they were going to amputate at least a few toes," and later says "I'm tired. one leg has already been amputated. I'm tired." The operator is heard telling the actor to 'stay with him' and keeps the injured man talking until help arrived. Daniel Von Bargen is perhaps best known for playing the role of Mr. Kruger in Seinfeld. He has also appeared in a number of high profile movies, such as O Brother, Where Art Thou and Silence of the Lambs.
