Serena Williams gets close to tears if she can't wear high heels.

The tennis ace admits she struggles to deal with injuries because they stop her from being able to make a fashion statement with her shoes.

She said: "When I'm injured it's devastating because I know I won't be able to wear heels. I'm practically in tears."

The sportswoman - who is currently ranked the number one tennis player in the world - also admits she doesn't know how she entered the world of athletics, as she has a very girly side.

She added to SOBeFiT magazine: "I'm the complete not-normal athlete, and I often wonder how I got into sports because I hate working out.

"I hate running. I hate all that stuff. I love doing my nails, reading, going to the movies and wearing high heels - the higher the better actually."

The 28 year old has previously admitted she is proud to have a different body shape to that of her sister Venus, who is also a top ranking tennis player.

She said: "I was growing up, wanting to be her, wanting to look like her, and I was always fitting in her clothes, but then one day I couldn't."

"Since I don't look like every other girl, it takes a while to be okay with that. But different is good."
