Shakira missed out on another U.S. number one when personal matters forced her to turn down rapper Pitbull's request to join him on his new hit Give Me Everything.
The Latino hip-hop star reveals the Colombian was his first choice as a partner on the dancefloor favourite, but she turned him down.
He says, "I tried to get Shakira on the record but, due to some personal things she was going through, she couldn't jump on the record."
Instead the hitmaker turned to Miami, Florida model and singer Nayer.
The eight-month recording process was completed when Ne-Yo joined the duo to complete the track, which ended Adele's mammoth run at the top of the U.S. pop charts last week (30Jun11).
It is not known what "personal things" prevented Shakira from joining Pitbull in the studio, but she recently split from longtime boyfriend Antonio de la Rua and started dating soccer star Gerard Pique.
