Shania Twain's stalker laughed out loud in court today when the judge ordered him to stay away from the Canadian singer.
Shania Twain's stalker Dr John Palumbo appeared in court today after being arrested at Sunday night's (27th March 2011) Juno Awards at the Air Canada Centre, where Twain was receiving an honorary award, reports the Calgary Sun.Standing in the prisoner's box, Palumbo appeared bewildered by Judge John Jackson's order that he stay away from Twain, saying, "I am in jail. How can I contact anybody? I am in jail". He later laughed out loud and said, "You are all doing a wonderful job, Your Honour". The 50-year-old cardiovascular and thoracic surgeon from Ottawa will be in prison until at least Friday when his bail hearing is heard. The doctor has been stalking the 33-year-old singer for several years and was once arrested wearing a 'Shania' t-shirt and carrying her biography. He has also been spotted near the singer's Muskoka cottage and reportedly travelled to her hometown of Timmins to attend her grandmother's funeral.
Police arrested the doctor on Sunday at the Juno Awards, where Shania Twain was scheduled to receive an award by walking through the crowd to the stage. However, police say they recognised a "familiar face" in the audience. Detective Michael Jander of the Toronto Police said, "One of her people had spotted him. He said he just wanted to meet her".
