Shetty Questioned Over Gere Kissby Contributor | | 28 September 2007
Celebrity Big Brother star Shilpa Shetty was reportedly held by immigration officials in India over her infamous kiss with Richard Gere.
The Bollywood actress, who was retunrning from the opening of MISS BOLLYWOOD in Berlin, was interrogated by officials upon her return, who claimed to have no knowledge that the Supreme Court had overturned a ban on her leaving the country following the Embrace.
Earlier this year, Shilpa had been elaborately kissed on the cheek by Gere at an Aids-awareness event.
The embrace had caused outrage in India, with conservative hard-line Hindus claiming the pair had violated the country's anti-obscenity laws.
Posters of the couple were burned in the street in protest.
Shilpa was stopped by immigration officials at Mumbai Airport and questioned upon her return to the country this week.
She said: "I can understand something like this if I'd committed a criminal offence.
"But what was my offence, when I'm just an actor, going to perform a musical on foreign land."
