Country singer Betty Cody has passed away. She was 92.

She died at her home in Maine on Tuesday night (01Jul14).

After signing a record contract with Rca in the early 1950s, the Canadian-born singer recorded more than 20 songs, including hits such as Tom Tom Yodel, Please Throw Away the Glass and I Found Out More Than You'll Ever Know.

Maine Country Music Hall of Fame & Museum chairman Slim Andrews says, "There is no question about it, Betty was the most recognisable female singer to ever come out of the state of Maine."

She had four children with fellow musician Harold Breau. Two of her sons, Lenny Breau and Denny Breau, went on to have successful music careers.
