Singer/songwriter LHASA DE SELA has lost her battle with breast cancer at the age of 37.
The musician passed away at her home in Montreal, Canada on New Year's Day (01Jan10).
De Sela began her career in the early 1990s singing in bars across Montreal, before breaking into the mainstream with her debut album La Llorona in 1997. The record won her a prestigious Juno award for Best Global Album.
In recent years, the star received the BBC World Music Award for Best Artist of the Americas in 2005 and released her third album last April (09).
De Sela was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2008 and was forced to postpone her European tour and a string of concerts last summer (09) as she battled the disease.
