Jewish folk singer DEBBIE FRIEDMAN has died.
She passed away on Sunday morning (09Jan11) at an Orange County, California hospital, where she had been admitted for pneumonia. The cause of death had not been released as WENN went to press.
Friedman, who was in her late 50s, set traditional Jewish prayers to contemporary folk music, with lyrics in Hebrew and English, in the 1970s. She went on to record more than 20 albums and her songs are now performed in Union for Reform Judaism synagogues around the world.
She is perhaps best known for her version of the prayer for healing, reports the Associated Press.
Her funeral is scheduled for Tuesday (11Jan11) at Temple Beth Sholom in Santa Ana, California.
