Legendary folk singer Jean Redpath has died, aged 77.

The Scottish-born star passed away on Thursday (21Aug14) at a hospice in Arizona following a battle with cancer.

Redpath lived with Bob Dylan after she moved to the U.S. in the 1960s and the pair worked together on a number of occasions.

She released more than 15 albums throughout her 50-year career, toured the U.S. and Australia during the 1970s and made regular appearances on radio variety show A Prairie Home Companion.

Redpath was also appointed artist-in-residence at the University of Stirling in Scotland in 1979 and gave lectures at Wesleyan University in Connecticut.

She was awarded a Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (Mbe) medal in 1987 for her services to music.
