Born in Belfast, Northern Ireland, Carroll represented the U.K. at the Eurovision Song Contest in 1962 and 1963 with the tunes Ring-A-Ding Girl and Say Wonderful Things. He finished in fourth place both times.

He later became a politician and was due to stand as an independent candidate in the upcoming English elections for Hampstead and Kilburn in London.

Born Ronald Cleghorn, he was married to Alfie star Millicent Martin from 1959 to 1965.

Carroll died on Monday (13Apr15).
