Syrian-Lebanese singer GEORGE WASSOUF has been arrested in Sweden on drug charges just hours before he was set to take the stage on Saturday (01Nov08).
Wassouf, 46, was arrested after a police raid at a hotel in the Swedish capital, interrupting his plans to perform in the Stockholm suburb of Solna - where thousands of fans had bought tickets to see the show.
Police officials in the western Stockholm district say Wassouf "has been held in police custody since yesterday (Saturday) on drug charges."
They have yet to confirm local reports Wassouf was allegedly found in possession of 30 grams of cocaine.
Prosecutors will reportedly ask a Stockholm court to remand him in custody on Monday (03Nov08) pending investigation.
Formal charges have yet to be brought against the singer.
Organisers of the concert have confirmed to local media that paper ticket holders will be reimbursed.
