Natalie Wood - Skipper Lied About Natalie Wood Boating Death
A yacht captain has claimed he lied to police about Natalie Wood 's mysterious death 30 years ago, and now blames her husband Robert Wagner for her drowning. The Hollywood actress fell into the sea after spending several hours drinking on Catalina Island with Wagner, actor Christopher Walken and the ship's captain Dennis Davern.
The exact circumstances surrounding the death have remained one of Hollywood's biggest mysterious, and Los Angeles Country homicide detectives initially deemed it a tragic accident, until now. Speaking to NBC's Today Show, Mr Davern said he made mistakes by not telling police the truth about events leading up to the death. Show host David Gregory brought up the theory that Wood and Wagner were fighting before the actress drowned, and after asking Davern whether he thought a disagreement led to the actress's death, the captain replied, "Yes". He went on to explain how Wagner, the star of Hart to Hart, had intentionally kept the investigation into Wood's death low profile and did not do everything he could have. LA County Sheriff spokesman Steve Whitmore said the reopening of the investigation was due to new information on how Wood ended up drowning, despite being terrified of the water.
It's not the first time Mr Davern has contradicted the original statements he gave to investigators. In the book 'Goodbye Natalie, Goodbye Splendour', the captain recalled how the couple were fighting before he heard "thumping noises" - Wood was dead shortly afterwards.
