After a four-year absence, Bond">James Bond has made what can only be described as a triumphant return. Skyfall, the latest Bond movie starring Daniel Craig, opened ahead of even the studio's Sunday estimate, earning $88.4 million. (The estimate had been $87.8 million). The result appeared to guarantee that 007 fans would not have to wait another four years for the next installment of the Bond franchise. The film did not have the benefit of 3D surcharges, but it did get a strong boost from IMAX ticket sales, which also carry a premium price. The film earned $13.1 million on IMAX screens. An additional $2.2 million was earned from limited preview screenings Thursday night, mostly on IMAX screens, bringing its opening gross to $90.6 million. Disney's Wreck-It Ralph, the family-film alternative, also delivered solid results, earning $33 million in its second weekend, to bring its 10-day gross to nearly $100 million ($93.6 million). Another strong contender was the second weekend of Paramount's Denzel Washington drama Flight, which brought in $14.8 million -- about what pundits had forecast it would earn in its opening weekend. The film, which reportedly cost $30 million to produce and is playing in only 2,047 theaters (versus 3,505 for Skyfall and 3,752 for Wreck-It Ralph) has already earned $47.5 million in 10 days. And while pundits may little note nor long remember what it did there -- in 11 theaters, that is -- Steven Spielberg's Lincoln opened in 15th place with $944,308, or $85,846 per theater (versus $25,211 per theater for Skyfall).
