The rapper Snoop Dogg has been arrested on possession of marijuana, according to Reuters. Border control agents found a small amount of the controlled substance in his tour bus as he tried to cross the Sierra Blanca checkpoint in Texas - the same place that the country singer Willie Nelson was arrested for the same offence in 2010.
According to the report, agents "routine inspection of the rapper's tour bus on at the U.S. / Mexico border checkpoint east of El Paso and thought they smelled marijuana." A spokesperson for US Customs and Border Protection stated "When our officers did a further inspection, they discovered a small amount of marijuana and turned him over to the Hudspeth County sheriff." The sniffer dog had reportedly found a prescription bottle with ready-rolled joints and two other containers with marijuana in. Snoop Dogg readily admitted that the drugs were his. He was cited for possession of drug paraphernalia before being released, with a court date of January 20, 2012.
This is not the first time that the rapper has been in trouble with the law. He has been arrested for possession of illegal drugs on a number of occasions and in 2006, he was arrested for possessing a collapsible police baton. Snoop and Dr Dre have recently been announced as one of the headliners of the 2012 Coachella festival.
