The writer of The Social Network , the movie about Facebook, has closed his Facebook account. Appearing at the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity, Aaron Sorkin acknowledged that his views about social media in general may make him sound like a Luddite or "like a grumpy old man sitting on the porch yelling at kids." Previously, the film's director, David Fincher, and star, Jesse Eisenberg, had expressed their disdain for Facebook. Sorkin did concede that social media can provide some benefit -- particularly when it comes to getting out the word of important news events. "I know Twitter can be interesting," he said. "The night we got Bin Laden, the president came on TV about 11 30, but we all knew that this was happening because of social media." Sorkin's own remarks hit Twitter almost instantaneously, as CNN host Piers Morgan tweeted "Interesting news - Aaron 'Social Network" Sorkin has quit Facebook." In a related matter, Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss, whose legal battle against Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg was described in Sorkin's screenplay, said in a court filing on Wednesday that they have decided not to appeal an appellate court ruling upholding the $65-million settlement they reached in 2008 with Facebook.
