The trailer for Sparkle has just been released online, showing Whitney Houston's final movie performance before she passed away suddenly in February 2012. Sparkle is a remake of the 1976 movie of the same name. Inspired by the story of Diana Ross and The Supremes, the movie focuses on three teenage sisters who form a girl group in Detroit, Michigan (the original was set in Harlem). The film is set in the 1950s and also stars Jordin Sparks, CEELO GREEN, Derek Luke and Mike Epps.
In the movie, Whitney plays the mother of the sisters looking for fame, encouraging her daughters as they set out on their career path. "You keep dancing like that, you're gonna bring home some kids you can't feed," she jokes to one of her daughters. The trailer features scenes of Whitney singing and in something of a prophetic moment, the trailer features her character uttering the lines "was my life not enough of a cautionary tale for you?" mirroring the problems faced by Whitney's own daughter, BOBBI KRISTINA Brown, who reportedly wants to launch her own music career, despite the problems faced by Whitney during her lifetime.
This is not the first time that Whitney has starred in a Hollywood movie. In 1992, she starred alongside Kevin Costner in The Bodyguard. The movie was a massive global success and her cover of Dolly Parton's 'I Will Always Love You' became a smash hit as a result of the film's popularity. Sparkle is scheduled for release in August 2012.
