Actor Sylvester Stallone has apologised and entered a guilty plea at an Australian court over the import of a banned growth hormone.

The 60-year-old actor, who returned to the big scene as Rocky Balboa this year, was allegedly found to have 48 vials of the restricted product in the country with him after checks on his luggage when going through customs in February and when police later raided his hotel room where he stayed while promoting the new boxing movie.

The performance hormone is a restricted drug in the country and a special license is required in order to import it.

Stallone was not in the Sydney court to hear the case against him but his lawyer, Phillip Boulten, entered a guilty plea and an apology on his behalf.

"His apology to the court is an apology in broad terms, meant to convey both to the general public, the community, and to the justice system itself, his regret," said Mr Boulten.

Due to be sentenced on Monday, the Cliffhanger star could face a fine of up to AUS$22,000 (£9,200).

Son of astrologer and Celebrity Big Brother contestant Jackie Stallone, the actor, director and writer has been married three times and has five children.
