Star Wars Fans Score Lucas/disney Deal
As expected, Twitter and Facebook comments focused not on the $4 billion that Disney is paying to buy Lucasfilm, but on the announced plans to release three more Star Wars movies. According to reports, the stories for them have already been developed by George Lucas and Kathleen Kennedy, who has been running Lucasfilm and will continue to do so under Disney, has reportedly been moving them forward for months. She remarked that Lucas will continue to be the little guardian angel on my shoulder consulting with her about the films. But if fans were disappointed with Lucas's three prequels, they were downright contemptuous of the plan for three sequels. Disney Buys Lucasfilm, Will Probably Ruin Star Wars Even More, headlined the media site FishbowlNY.com. A tweet by @ZachWeinter -- Worrying that Disney will ruin Star Wars is like worrying that a second iceberg will dive down to hit the Titanic -- touched off thousands of retweets. But haunting the entire project may be Lucas's own words to a Los Angeles Times reporter in 2008. Asked about a sequel, Lucas remarked. The movies were the story of Anakin Skywalker and Luke Skywalker, and when Luke saves the galaxy and redeems his father, that's where that story ends. And Lucas himself has obviously been stung by some of the fan reaction to the prequels. To a New York Times reporter he said: Why would I make any more when everybody yells at you all the time and says what a terrible person you are.
