Yoko Ono is bringing the stars to Los Angeles this weekend (01-03Oct10) to kickstart her late husband John Lennon's 70th birthday celebrations.
The singer/artist will perform two shows with her We Are Plastic Ono Band on Friday and Saturday night and she'll perform a solo set at the city's Grammy Museum on Sunday (03Oct10).
Perry Farrell, Iggy Pop, rapper RZA, actors Carrie Fisher, Vincent Gallo and Joseph Gordon Levitt are expected to join Ono onstage on Friday, while Lady Gaga is expected to team up with Sonic Youth’s Kim Gordon and Thurston Moore at the Ono show on Saturday.
And even Lennon's widow is excited by the upcoming shows: "I have never done a show in L.A., so I am very happy to be finally doing it."
The three concerts are the highlights of a string of big tributes to Lennon, who was born on 9 October, 1940 - members of his first band The Quarrymen are in town for shows, director Sam Taylor-Wood is flying in for the U.S. premiere of her Nowhere Boy biopic and the city's Grammy Museum and The Egyptian cinema will be hosting new and rare Lennon and Beatles this weekend and beyond.
There's also a major exhibition of rare early Lennon photographs at the Mr. Musichead art gallery, which begins on Friday afternoon (01Oct10).
And Ono expects October (10) to be an exceptional month for Lennon fans around the world. She tells the Los Angeles Times, "I have been getting hundreds of requests from all over the world from people planning celebrations of John."
