Cyndi Lauper, Justin Timberlake and Mia Farrow are among the stars who have reached out to the people of Japan exactly a year after the 2011 earthquake/tsunami disaster.
A massive 9.0-magnitude tremor struck the country on 11 March (11) and sent a huge tidal wave inland, leaving more than 15,000 victims dead.
Many regions of Japan are still recovering from the destruction and Sunday (11Mar12) marks exactly a year since the tragedy, prompting a number of stars to pay tribute on Twitter.com.
Lauper was in Japan on tour at the time of the disaster and she returned to the country ahead of the first anniversary to raise funds for survivors and plan a charity concert.
She writes in a series of posts on Twitter, "At 2:46pm Japan time is one yr (year) exactly when the earth quake hit Japan. There is an international prayer at that time if you want to say a (prayer)... If you are a Reiki (Japanese spiritual healing) master or do practice please send for those afflicted and those never found. 2:46pm Japan time... Thank you."
Singer/actor Timberlake writes, "1 year later after the tsunami and earthquake... Japan... I'm still thinking of you. My heart goes out to you", while British rocker Liam Gallagher adds, "Japan, I'm thinking of you... LG".
Actress Mia Farrow writes, "Thoughts with everyone in Japan who suffered from the tragedy one year ago. Sorrow, solidarity and respect."
