Singer/songwriter BOBBY HEBB has died at the age of 72.
The musician, best known for writing chart-topping 1966 hit Sunny, passed away at a hospital in Nashville, Tennessee on Tuesday (03Aug10) after losing his battle with lung cancer.
Hebb began his career playing in both jazz and country bands, before shooting to fame with the recording of his famous song, which was later covered by stars including Cher, Stevie Wonder, Frank Sinatra and Ella Fitzgerald.
He toured with the Beatles during the 1960s and enjoyed hits with tracks including A Satisfied Mind and Love Me.
Hebb gave up recording in 1970 and waited 35 years before releasing new material, returning to the charts with That's All I Wanna Know in 2005.
He is survived by a daughter and four sisters.
