Survivor Contracts Exposed

Each contestant on CBS's Survivor is required to sign a contract containing a confidentiality agreement requiring them to pay $5 million for each breach, according to RealityBlurred.com, a website that tracks reality shows. On Monday the website posted a redacted copy of each of the three agreements that the contestants must sign in advance of their appearance on the show. They include a non-defamation clause in which they agree not to "cast in an unfavorable light" the network, the production company, or "any CBS entity" or any sponsors of Survivor. The contract also bars contestants from having a personal website while the show is being broadcast and requires them to take down any preexisting website and replace it with the notice "Site Under Construction" until the series concludes. They are also forbidden from commenting online about anything, even if it has nothing to do with the show. (RealityBlurred observed that that contract condition has clearly been ignored by several contestants.)
