Survivor rocker Frankie Sullivan has reached a settlement with former U.S. presidential hopeful Newt Gingrich after taking legal action over the politician's use of their Eye Of The Tiger hit earlier this year (12).
Bosses for Rude Music Inc., who represent the singer, filed suit in Illinois in January (12), claiming the Republican had been using the song illegally since 2009.
Gingrich's campaign bosses even boasted about the power of the 1982 track on his website - following a campaign event in Doylestown, Pennsylvania, they wrote, "Mr. Gingrich entered the packed Moose Lodge for a speech as the song pulsed..."
Sullivan demanded unspecified damages over the copyright infringement, but the two parties have been working out the issue and are now completing documentation of the agreement to put the case to rest, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The details of the deal have yet to be disclosed.
Gingrich dropped out of the race for the White House in May (12), conceding defeat to political rival Mitt Romney, who will go up against incumbent Barack Obama at the polls in November (12).
Gingrich isn't the only Republican to come under fire for using popular songs on the campaign trail - rockers Silversun Pickups recently fired off a cease-and-desist letter to Romney, ordering him to stop playing their track Panic Switch, while his vice presidential running mate Paul Ryan has fallen foul of Dee Snider over his use of Twisted Sister's We're Not Gonna Take It during a political rally on Tuesday (21Aug12).
