Tamara Ecclestone - Tamara Ecclestone's Ex Jailed For Four Years Over Failed Blackmail Plot
Tamara Ecclestone's former fiance has been jailed for four years after he was convicted of trying to blackmail the British socialite for $320,000 (£200,000).
On Monday (25Feb13), Derek Rose, 33, was found guilty of threatening to sell intimate secrets of the former couple's sex life unless Ecclestone paid him.
Judge Andrew Goymer handed Rose a four-year custodial sentence at Southwark Crown Court in London on Tuesday (26Feb13), and the daughter of billionaire Formula One boss Bernie Ecclestone feels "relieved" by the result.
Her lawyer Charlotte Harris says, "Tamara Ecclestone is relieved that Judge Goymer has acknowledged, in his sentencing of Derek Rose, the serious nature of blackmail and the need to deter others from attempting to commit similar offences.
"Ms Ecclestone was content to waive her anonymity in giving evidence because she strongly believes that all people have a right to be protected from such cynical and vicious behaviour. The sentence of four years is welcomed."
Rose's co-accused Jakir Uddin, 20, who allegedly sent an email demanding the money, faces a re-trial after the jury failed to reach a verdict in his case.
