Taylor Swift 's latest hit We Are Never Getting Back Together has reached the top of the Billboard Hot 100, reports Billboard. The country-pop singer had never achieved the top-spot, until now.
The song, which recently blew download records for most paid downloads in a week for a female artist, has proved Swift's most successful release to date, as it brought about another musical milestone that had previously eluded the 22-year old star. She's no stranger to high praise and accolades, and has already claimed Billboard's Woman of the Year (2011) and No. 1s on the Billboard 200, Digital Songs, Radio Songs, Pop Songs, Country Songs and Country Albums charts, among others. She's sold an impressive 17.8 million albums in the U.S. and 50 million downloads. Climbing to the summit of the prestigious Billboard Hot 100 was surely an inevitable feat for Swift, considering her tracks You Belong With Me and Today Was a Fairytale both reached No.2, with Mine and Love Story reaching No.3 and No.4, respectively. It seems a No.1 spot to add to her impressive collection of records was just a matter of time.
Swift becomes the 1,018th leader in the chart's 54-year history. Elsewhere in the chart, Ellie Goulding's Lights dips to No. 3 after reaching a highpoint of No. 2 and Carly Rae Jepsen's former nine-week No. 1 Call Me Maybe drops into joint 4th.
