Octavia Spencer - Teary Octavia Spencer Wins Best Supporting Actress At Oscars 2012
Octavia Spencer landed the first major award of the 84th Academy Awards, winning Best Supporting Actress for her stand-out performance in 'The Help'. The actress was the clear favorite to take home the statuette, though fended off stiff competition from Jessica Chastain and Bridesmaids star Melissa McCarthy.
Spencer looked stunned as actor Christian Bale read out her name, and received a standing ovation from the star-studded crowd at the Kodak Theatre. A teary eyed Octavia said, "I'd like to thank.my Help family.I share this with everybody, thank you Steven Spielberg for changing my life. I'm wrapping up. I'm freaking out". Her performance in The Help has already seen her pick up a Screen Actor's Guild Award and Golden Globe this season. During a recent interview with Parade magazine about what she plans on doing after the Oscars, Spencer joked, "I am going to get my boobs lifted. That's going to be my first gift. I'm going to do that. I figured going into my forties I want my boobs where they were when I was 17." She also told the publication that it hadn't been easy choosing which family member to take to the Oscars, saying, "If I could take all of my siblings, it would be easy and I would do that. But since I can't, I have to keep it in perspective since we got there as a team. Even if only a few of us are singled out, I would rather have as much of us there as possible because they worked on the film and should bask in all of its glory. I think that is the right thing to do. If my mom would be alive, it would definitely be her, but she's not."
Spencer's The Help star Viola Davis is nominated for the award for Best Actress, though will have to beat Meryl Streep to take home the statuette.
